Gold Coast businesses have helped to raise over $60 000 to support the family of Lindy Dalgliesh, who lost her battle with bowel cancer last week.
The 90.9 Sea FM Morning Crew hosts, Paul, Moyra and baggs, stayed awake and on air for 50 hours inside a Kombi Van to raise money for the family.
The fundraising event, called the Kombi of Hope, was organised to help ease the financial struggle associated with paying for Lindy Dalgliesh’s cancer treatment.
Promotions Co-ordinator for Sea FM Samantha-Rose Gilliland said the response from the community was overwhelming with people donating money and other everyday necessities.
“Furniture stores said to Russell [Lindy’s husband] to just go in and take whatever he likes, also clothes stores donated vouchers to the family,” she said.
Miss Gilliland said the radio station would keep in close contact with the Dalgliesh family after the Kombi of Hope had finished.
“We have become pretty close with this family, many members of the Dalgliesh family came and sat with the crew over the 50 hours,” said Miss Gilliland.
Local building company Coral Homes was one of the many businesses to donate money to the Dalgliesh family, contributing $1000.
Coral Homes Marketing Manager Glenn Kennedy said they decided to support this cause because the Sea FM radio jockey Paul Gale has a great history of supporting the community.
“It is a good cause and the radio station is very committed to the community,” said Mr Kennedy.
