Queensland filmmakers displayed their talents at the Gold Coast Film Fantastic (GCFF) local showcase held at Bond University last week.
The showcase, screening four independent films Girl Clock, Sleeper, ICU and Shadows of the Past, was held in conjunction with the Gold Coast Film Festival.
Festival director Casey Marshall Siemer said the GCFF was held to promote and nurture local film-makers and help with distributing their work.
“The local showcase provides a great opportunity for the community to become engaged in local filmmaker’s and actor’s work,” she said.
“It also gives the young and upcoming talent a chance to get their work out in the industry and secure an Australian release.
The festival aims to assist filmmakers in meeting industry figureheads while promoting the films to their respective target audience.
ICU leading actress and Neighbours star Margot Robbie said she was excited about the film being premiered on the Gold Coast as it was her hometown.
“It’s really great to see the Gold Coast showcasing its talent,” Miss Robbie said.
“Quite often the local community does not take into account that the Gold Coast has a growing film culture too.
“So it’s a fantastic opportunity to appeal to locals when a film festival like this comes along.”
Varsity Lakes resident Samantha Craig said she was excited to see some films produced in Queensland.
“Now I have an even better excuse to go to the movies because I will be supporting local filmmakers and actors,” Miss Craig said.
“I have watched Neighbours since high school, so ICU is on the top of my to see list.”
All four films in the local showcase will be premiered from November 12 to 15 at Australia Fair Birch, Carroll and Coyle Cinemas, Southport.
