Telecommunications Company gotalk bought $10,000 worth of non perishable food items from the local IGA store in an effort to support those affected by the Victorian Bushfires. The Victorian bushfires which left over 200 people dead has prompted thousands of organisations and individuals to donate money to aid those who had lost everything. gotalk CEO Steve Picton said he really felt for the people affected by the bushfires and wanted to help. “We [gotalk] always try to give back whenever we can,” he said “I like to think that as an Australian when one part of Australia gets into trouble the rest of it will come to its aid.” Other businesses in the Varsity Lakes business community such as IGA and Fastway Couriers have added their support to gotalk’s initiative. Mr Picton said Varsity Lakes IGA sold the goods at cost price and Fastway Couriers transported the items to Victoria for free. Owner of Varsity Lakes IGA Brendan Walsh said he was happy to forfeit the profit to help those in need.“One of their representatives contacted me and asked me if we wanted to participate in it, which we were glad to do,” Mr Walsh said “It’s just a tragedy.” To donate to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal contact the Australian Red Cross on 1800 180 213.
