A local city guide shows locals and visitors the ins and outs of the Gold Coast.
The Naked city guide’s website said the book aimed to show people the creative side of the Gold Coast.
“It’s hard to find something earnest and original in the city of the kinky and kitsch,” the website said.
“But when you begin to strip away the clutter, gloss and blah, you might just uncover a simplistic beauty you never knew existed.”
Naked Author Cory Maxwell-Coghlan has been a resident of the Gold Coast for eight years and launched the book hoping to promote unique venues around the city.
“I wanted to pull away from the typical stereotypes and recast the Coast in a light where art and culture strive to meet,” he said. Mr Maxwell-Coghlan said he had previously worked in the Varsity Lakes area and mentioned the Varsity Lakes skate park in his book.
“[Varsity Lakes] is a growing area with a cool café scene,” he said.
A recent vox pop survey found 27 out of 35 Varsity Lakes residents were not originally from the Gold Coast.
Varsity Lakes resident Diana Fletcher said she was originally from England.
“I wish I had known about the book sooner … I have been here for four years now and didn’t know that half these places existed,” she said.
Another Varsity Lakes resident Alex King said she found the book useful.
“This gives me more incentive to rush home from uni [in Brisbane] and come home to something different and interesting,” she said.
The book is available at various news agencies and shops around the Gold Coast, while a preview of the book is available online via www.nakedcityguide.com.au/look.
