Fresh face in local politics

By Remi Quinlivan and Maxine Ortega, Bond University journalism students

Varsity Lakes resident Martyn Shedd has launched his ‘Go4fresh’ campaign in an effort to become new councillor for Division 11.

Mr Shedd believes he can contribute to the area’s future growth and direction by giving the community a fresh voice in the forthcoming elections.

He said he had been unhappy with the current direction of Council and some of the decisions made over the past four years.

“Trying to profiteer from water through Allconnex, closing important Gold Coast attractions, imposition of high infrastructure charges and poor performance of the administration,” Mr Shedd said.

If elected he seeks to boost development and jobs by reducing infrastructure charges temporarily.

Mr Shedd and his wife, Amy, have been actively involved in the Division 11 area for more than 20 years.

“Martyn would love to hear from the [community] through social media links including twitter and LinkedIn,” Mrs Shedd said.

Mr Shedd will be available every Saturday this month from 9am to 10am for questions at 16 Lake Street, Varsity Lakes.

The election will take place on March 31, 2012.
