Sporting clubs from around the Gold Coast came together recently to encourage a healthy, active lifestyle for the Varsity Lakes Community.
The inaugural Fit Day was run by Active After-school Communities (AASC) program and included demonstrations from Arakan Martial Art, Gold Coast Celtics Basketball Club, Robina City Soccer Club and the Gold Coast Cougars Baseball.
Regional coordinator Greg Fox said he hoped a day of sporting fun with the family would help create healthy lifestyles.
“Fit day is a new concept for our organization and if it’s a success we’re hoping to try and make it a regular event with plans to hold the next one in Upper Coomera,” he said.
“The event is open to the general public and we would love to see not just the kids getting involved but also the parents as its all about participation and trying out new things.”
Mr Fox said Fit Day would hopefully lead to an increase in participation with the many different sport clubs who have come on board.
Varsity Lakes resident Jacob Gundry said he planned to attend the event on Saturday.
“It’s a great concept, I think it’s a fantastic way to get the whole community involved and at the same time having a blast outdoors,” he said
“Being able to talk to a wide range of people from all the different sporting clubs all in the one place will make it a lot easier for people to get involved in their local clubs.”
