Finding a balance between work and working out in Varsity Lakes

(By Lauren Dunn and Nicole Oliver - Bond University Journalism Students)

SEVERAL Varsity Lakes residents said even with the convenience and availability of fitness clubs in the area, finding a balance between exercising while managing other responsibilities was difficult.

Varsity Lakes resident Michelle Lyons said a lack of time was the main reason she could not exercise regularly.

"I have a full time job and two kids so making time to exercise is just not an option," she said.

Another local resident, Josh Bliss said even with the availability of gyms in the area, such as Jetts and Fitness First, he preferred to exercise outdoors.
"I'm in an office during the day so when I exercise I want to be outside," he said.

Detour Hair Designs employee Chrisella Corbett said while she had a year membership to a gym in Broadbeach, she hadn't been in over a month.
"I'm going through a slack period, but I just can't find the time to work out," she said.

Fitness First personal training manager Brendan O'Brien said clients were more likely to make time for fitness when they were unhappy in some way.
"Most of the time it's their looks ... they want to change their appearance in some sort of way," he said.

Fitness First gym member Jill Price said she specifically made time in her busy schedule to work out because it made her feel good about herself and her appearance.
"Feeling good about one's self is especially important on the Gold Coast - where social life is highly valued," she said.
