An upcoming event at Frascott Park aims to teach Varsity Lake’s residents and visitors the benefits of walking their pets.

‘Just Walk Me’ is an event run by the Gold Coast Council and Animal Management that has been operating since October 2007 and encouraging people to walk their dogs.

Kim Croker, event organizer said it not only helps people get active but educates them as well.

“Dog owners are learning valuable skills and information at no cost from Council staff,” said Ms Croker.

The event will run from 7am to 9.30am on Sunday March 20 at Frascott Park Varsity Lakes.

The park is one of over 100 locations in the Gold Coast that allows people to exercise their dogs off leash, and many local residents frequent the park.

Ms Croker said the event helps people to realize that walking their dogs makes them happier, healthier and more social, and that dogs encourage their owners to be active.

Frequent visitor to Frascott Park, Ruth O’Sullivan said she enjoys coming to Frascott Park to allow her dog Moet to play in the off leash area.

“It’s great for the dogs to socialize with each other, instead of just walking with their owners,” she said.

Ms Croker believes the event is likely to attract locals who already enjoy walking their dog in Frascott park.
