Varsity Lake’s residents can look forward to improved traffic conditions in the area.
Traffic between the university roundabout and Lake Street has always caused traffic jams around peak hours.
One lane each way means that cars turning into Ring Road cause traffic to be banked up.
Roadworks by Delfin Lend Lease and Gold Coast City Council are being undertaken to create an additional lane in each direction, a bike lane and a new footpath.
A new lane for motorists to turn into Ring Road aims to reduce the amount of traffic build-up.
Urban development and Town Planning student Tyronne Alt understands the importance of the roadworks.
“The road upgrade will benefit Varsity Lake’s residents and Bond students by reducing gridlock in peak hour traffic by providing a safer alternative than having to stop the flow of traffic to turn into Ring road,” he said.
“This upgrade not only will increase the flow of traffic, but could also reduce stress for residents and students going about their daily activities.”
Varsity Lake’s resident Jessica Colwell said she was looking forward to the roads being completed.
“Once the works are completed I think it will make people's lives a lot less stressful,” said Jessica.
“It will benefit students and residents by making it easier to get in and out of Varsity Lakes.”
The roadworks are scheduled to be completed before Christmas.
