(By NOR AIN SULAIMAN - Bond University Journalism student) Varsity Lakes residents’ had the opportunity to try dragon boating on Lake Orr last Saturday.
Varsity Lakes resident Lawrence Louis said he tried dragon boating for the first time.
“It was challenging and it was not easy as it seemed,” he said.
Gold Coast Dragon Club coordinator Julie Elliot said they hosted the event to raise awareness about the sport.
The club held training sessions last week, where people could be chosen to join the Dragon Boat team, Mrs Elliot said.
“We are looking for more paddlers to enter World Club Crew Championship in Macau 2010,” she said.
Australian Dragon Boat federation administration director Janine Lette said Gold Coast Dragon Club needed to find four more people to complete their team.
“We need 22 paddlers in a boat, including one drummer at the bow facing toward the paddlers, and one sweep at the rear of the boat,” she said.
Next year’s World Club Crew Championship will be held from July 29 to August 1 in China.
