Lack of pedestrian crossings throughout the Varsity Lakes including the Market Square area has been the cause of distress for some local residents.
Both pedestrians and traffic are left confused as there are no clear markings on the roads.
In the Market Square there are two small red humps on the road which are to indicate where pedestrians are to walk.
Due to its close proximity to Bond University, Domain Aged Care, and Kids Campus Child Care, there are an abnormal amount of pedestrians walking around the area.
This, residents say, make road safety even more critical for Varsity Lakes.
Although there are no recorded fatalities so far, residents are concerned about their safety on the Varsity roads.
Earlier this month, there was a car accident involving delinquent drivers.
Police say that this incident has drawn attention to the issue of speeding and hoon drivers in the area, whilst the lack of safe crossings has gone relatively under the radar.
79-year-old Mary Beth says that the local council really needs to review the safety of the streets in the area.
“It’s really dangerous, and I always take extra care when walking around Varsity.”
Bond University Law Student student Josh Lessing claims that when crossing the road out the front of Hotel CBD, he was nearly hit by a car.
“There really needs to be more pedestrian crossings put in, to make crossing to roads safer for the community,” he said.
