Crack-down on Hooning in the Varsity Lakes area

P-Plate driver Louis Apollo
said he had witnessed hooning in Varsity Lakes.

LOCAL police said they are set to crack-down on hooning in the Varsity Lakes area.

The move follows a suspected joy-ride car crash earlier this month, where a four-wheel-drive vehicle rolled into a tree.

Mudgeeraba Police Senior Sergeant Mark Anderson said hooning was a serious problem across the Gold Coast and had been for a while.
“... our officers are constantly on the lookout for this type of behaviour  ...  and we will prosecute through the court system where possible,” he said.
“We frequently receive complaints from residents in the Varsity Lakes area regarding hoon behaviour.”

CBD Hotel manager Liza Jones said she believed the incidents of hooning in Varsity Lakes was similar to most other Gold Coast suburbs.
“In the day here I’d say it [hooning] isn’t a problem but at night it can be a concern sometimes,” she said.

Senior Sergeant Anderson said people concerned about hooning should report incidents to their local police station.
