Cooks gain hands-on experience in Market Square

Signature Dish Café and Catering, located in Market Square, has been offering all-purpose cooking sessions every Wednesday and Thursday evening for beginners to intermediate cooks since March this year.

Both private and mixed group cooking classes ranging from eight to 11 people give hands-on experience to participants and include two courses – a main and a dessert.

Qualified chef Charlotte Chaudet, who demonstrates French and Modern Australian cuisine, enjoys giving interactive cooking classes at Signature Dish Café and Catering.

“We encourage people to try ... so when they get home they know what it feels like and they know what to do,” she said.

“So, it’s not just cooking a meal, it’s also how to prepare it.”

Signature Dish Café and Catering also works closely with individual customer requests.

Qualified chef Jason Rowe said people were asking about the special type of meat – Wagyu –and so Signature Dish decided to run with it.

“[It’s] the appreciation to get to know Wagyu beef ... how to get intimate with your meat,” he said.

“It’s one of those things people don’t want to go to a restaurant for - they want something different.

“They actually want to know how to cook it by themselves.”

Both qualified chefs take the cooking classes in a weekly rotation, so people get to learn diverse styles of cooking with different levels of experience.
