Construction update for the Varsity Lakes interchange upgrade

February 2010

Construction, by contractors Probuild Civil and due for completion late 2010, is progressing well.

In December Stapley Drive, the new connecting road between Gemvale Road and Scottsdale Drive was opened.

There has been some congestion, especially in the morning peak times, in the Gemvale and Old Coach Road areas. Main Roads is working with stakeholders, including schools, and closely monitoring the new traffic lights there to help alleviate this.

However there will be further delays with the ongoing work. In coming weeks the northbound on-ramp will be reduced to one lane to excavate for the new on-ramp and this change will be carefully monitored for its effect on traffic. After this, work will begin converting the intersection at Bridgman Drive to traffic lights.

Currently Reedy Creek Road has one lane closed in each direction for asphalting work. This will continue into March and motorists are asked to use Bermuda Street to access the motorway where possible.

Scottsdale Drive traffic will soon move to a new section of asphalt to allow the culverts to be replaced and for asphalting work to continue for the new intersection at Reedy Creek Road. Traffic will continue to be two-way traffic with occasional interruptions.

Contractors expect the new Reedy Creek /Scottsdale Drive intersection to be operating by mid year.

The contractors will try to minimise noise and disruption and we apologise for any inconvenience. This work is weather dependant and may be changed or delayed.
