A number of Varsity College students shaved their heads in an effort to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave campaign last Friday.
Varsity College student Jasmine Veldhuizen who was the only female to shave her head raised $2000.
“I just wanted to make a difference,” she said.
“I’m 12 years old now and if I start [charity work] now, I can do such amazing things when I’m older.”
Another Varsity College student Nicholas Jackson said he was motivated to participate because of his family history.
“I’ve had a couple of people in my family who’ve had cancer before,” he said.
“So I thought I may as well give back to the cause and I would definitely do it again.”
Four teachers also sacrificed their hair for the cause.
Engineering teacher Mr Andrew Rogers said he challenged his entire class to participate in the shave and sponsored each student who was involved.
Mr Andrew told his students he would participate if they did.
“We raised $700 and they eventually paid me $110 to donate,” he said.
