Christmas without the fuss

By Maxine Ortega, Bond University journalism student

This year’s Christmas day Varsity Lakes Tavern offers the family a lunch-time feast without any of the fuss.

It is a lunch buffet including salads, fresh seafood, roast turkey, roast pork, honey glazed ham, desserts, pavlova, Christmas pudding, old English trifle and much more.

Assistant Function Manager Natalie Parkin said the event catered for those a long way from home.

“Mostly because there are many international students around this area, and we wanted to provide a home away from home feel to their Christmas day the idea is to provide a festive and intimate atmosphere accompanied by beautiful decorations,” Ms Parkin said.

“But we are also catering for large families, we just want to take the pressure off so that everyone can relax and enjoy their day off.”

“We have a big Christmas tree with heaps of presents under it, which Santa will be giving out to children 12 and under, so families don’t have to worry about buying presents this year.”

“We already have 60 people booked in to be dining with us.”

Adult cost is $75 per head, children 12 and under pay $25, and those under five years get in for free.
