The recent merge of Robina and Varsity Chambers with the Burleigh Chamber which is now called Central Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce Inc has extended the network of businesses for members and created a forum for discussion in the community.
The main purpose of the Chamber is to liaise with the Gold Coast City Council, State and Federal Governments about issues which are important to members and create networking opportunities.
Committee member Marcus Sullivan said local businesses help support each other during hard financial times.
“[It’s] better off working with people in your chamber ... [they’re] like-minded and community focused ... they want to support you, you want to support them,” he said.
Mr Sullivan said at the Twilight Functions or the monthly breakfasts members could promote their businesses and learn from various guest speakers.
“We try and bring people in who have a community focus ... [and who will] provide benefits for the group,” said Mr Sullivan
The Chamber has recently reverted to a monthly paying system to make access to membership easier during the economic crisis.
Event and Administration Coordinator Dawn Pope said President Nic Rone was very motivated and active.
“[He] drives the Chamber to the next level,” she said.
