Varsity Lakes residents have expressed interest in a bin being introduced along the three kilometre trail, parallel to Lake Orr, in order to minimise litter.
Allyson Alfonso, a Varsity Lakes resident, has often exercised along Lake Orr and has noticed bottles littering the lake.
“I think if we had some more bins along the footpath that maybe people wouldn’t litter as much,” she said.
However, Councillor Jan Grew confirmed there once was a bin along the pathway which was removed at a resident's request.
“There was [a bin] as you went down the stairs, and apparently the crows were getting all the rubbish out of it and spreading it everywhere, and a resident asked for that to be taken out,” she said.
In addition to the crow issue, the inconvenient location has served as a barrier to the installation of bins along the track.
“I think that I would have great difficulty talking waste management into putting [a bin too far down the track], because it would be so far away for the cleaners to clean it,” she said.
To combat the problem, Cr Grew suggests a solution she has used herself.
“Well quite frankly, I take doggie poo bags for my dog and I just carry them until I get to the one at the other end. I would think you would do exactly as I do and just carry it to the next bin.”
For those walking the track, bins can be located in the playground area, situated centrally along the pathway.
A spokesperson said Gold Coast Waste Management was currently auditing bins around the Lake Orr pathway.
