Varsity Lakes CBD is planning it's annual Melbourne Cup festivities with a sit-down luncheon at $90 a head with drinks and a three-course meal.

More than 110 people have already purchased tickets for this event and it is set to be one of the hotspots in Varsity Lakes for the races.

Not only is there formal dining but casual drinks and betting will take place in the sports bar with a barbecue for the local punters to enjoy.

“We are doing all the spring racing colours with balloons and serviettes…we really dress it up,” said co-owner of CBD, Gay Pringle.

“We also have it (sports bar) open for all the tradies and workers that finish work at 12 and don’t really want to go home and get changed.

“They just come in and we have a sausage sizzle and steak sandwiches down that end of the bar.

“It’s one of our biggest days.”

Due to Melbourne Cup being held on a Tuesday there is also the weekly uni night at CBD, which will be just as vivacious as any other week.

Local band The Accidents will be playing from 4pm with live music to entertain the uni crowds.

“They are just getting more staff on and an extra gaming terminal in the Sports Bar,” said bar worker Tara Staly.

“Tuesday is meant to be our uni night which is pretty huge as well.

“Everyone stops for Melbourne Cup and it is mostly the local business that will be coming in.”

Tara and the team at CBD are preparing for quite a large crowd on Tuesday November 2.

Varsity Lakes residents are just as excited about the day.

“I’m so excited for Melbourne Cup I have already purchased my ticket for the luncheon and I really cannot wait!” said Christina Canavan.

“I bought a new dress, some high heels so I’m ready for a really fun day.”
