Varsity College students braved it and shaved it, and raised $1356.50 to support this year’s Shave for a Cure at the senior campus last Friday.
A total of 22 students lined up in front of the school assembly as they had their heads shaved to support leukaemia.
Year 12 student Dion Bello was one participant who said goodbye to his locks.
“I had been thinking about doing it since year 10, but it took me a while to man up,” said Dion.
“I really loved my hair.”
Raising $117 alone, Dion said a lot of the sponsorship came from friends.
“I feel good I actually raised a decent amount of money, I could have done better though,” he said.
“But then again there’s always next year.”
As a member of the school’s hip-hop crew, Dion said he was not put off by the thought of being bald.
“I don’t miss it.
“I was kind of over my hair and I didn’t know how to feel about being bald, but I think it suits me even more,” he said.
Varsity College teachers also joined in the shave to contribute towards the event.
Regularly contributing to the foundation, Varsity College has held the event every year for more than 6 years now.
The money raised by the school will go to the Leukaemia Foundation to fund services to support patients and families affected by cancers and blood disorders.
