OVER 200 people, including Premier Anna Bligh, attended the book launch of Queenslanders All Over, which celebrates the lifestyle and achievements of residents, at Queensland’s Parliament House last Wednesday.
Bond University Press (BUP) coordinator Antoinette Cass said the launch honoured Queensland’s 150th anniversary and highlighted the state’s contemporary history.
The author Joan Burton-Jones said many of the individuals featured in the book attended the launch.
“Premier Anna Bligh ... showed an obvious enthusiasm for the book, even recounting passages from it to the audience,” she said.
Ms Cass said the book was a great opportunity for BUP, which is establishing itself as a quality commercial press.
“It was timely to produce this high profile publication which also raises public awareness of Bond University Press,” she said.
The book features diverse and colourful stories outlining the history of Queensland communities which is based upon interviews conducted over a four year period by Ms Burton-Jones, said Ms Cass.
Ms Burton-Jones’ website said the book was partly funded by a grant awarded by the Queensland Government for the 150th anniversary.
“I'm delighted to know that many people have returned to their communities saying how thrilled they were about the launch of what they as Queenslanders feel is their book,” said Ms Burton-Jones.
