Bond University students give back to those less fortunate
Each year a group of Bond University students volunteer to give up four days of their Christmas holidays for the “Bond Children’s Holiday Camp”.
This is entirely a student led, not-for-profit initiative. The children and their families are not charged to attend and everyone involved in running the camp are volunteers. This fantastic initiative truly seeks to engage with the community and to give back to those less fortunate.
The Bond Children’s Holiday Camp invites disabled children from around the Gold Coast to live at Bond University for a few days before Christmas. The volunteer students live with the children for the duration of the camp and become their full time guardians and friends over this time. A range of activities are organised, including a trip to Sea World, swimming, demonstrations from the Fire-Brigade and much much more.
It is a truly rewarding experience for both children and carers alike and is an example of the difference Bond students can make when they engage with our community.
This year unfortunately, the major sponsor has pulled out due to their financial concerns and the students now need to raise $18,000 before the end of the year to make this happen and give these kids this fantastic experience. Donation requests range from $30 to allow one child to ride on the Aqua Duck Adventure or $88 to cover the cost of one nurse to $450 which will provide the whole experience for one child.
The students of Bond University are seeking the support of the community to make a few days of these children’s lives just that little bit more special. How can you help?
