A Bond Public Relations Group brought in Life Savers to teach the local community how to get ‘surf’ smart.
Local Varsity Lakes residents and Bond University students were taught Surf Life saving techniques at the Bond University pool to help raise money for Surf Life Saving Queensland.
Bond University Public Relation students James Stevenson, Anna-lise Rosendahl, Laura-Kaye Carlsen and Richelle Mcnae were the organisers of the Bond Rescue Surf Life saving event.
“We wanted to get something quiet hands-on and interesting for the people,” said Richelle Mcnae.
The organisers of the event hope to spark enough attention from the local community, in order to bring more awareness about how to be safe at the beach.
The Surf Life Savers gave students CPR lessons as well as teaching the students how to stay safe on Gold Coast beaches.
The people who attended the event were also given the opportunity to perform CPR on resuscitation dolls and participate in rescue techniques performed by Surf Life Savers.
There were raffle prizes donated by local Varsity Lakes business valued at over $240.
“We have a $100 voucher from Travelscene, a Secret Sanctum massage voucher, two games of golf at Boomerang Farm and a $30 Blooms on Varsity voucher,” said Richelle Mcnae.
The members of the public as well as students also had the opportunity to participate in demonstrations held by Gold Coast Surf Life saver Chantel Clegg who let them test out rescue equipment including the inflatable rescue boat (IRB).
