ACT for Kids has been helping hurting hearts all over Queensland for the past years. The organisation works and advocates for children who are victims of child abuse. ACT for Kids is a non profit organisation that works with over 1,200 families across Queensland.
Dr Felicity Grace is a counsellor employed 4 days a week under the Varsity Lakes Community Renewal Project called Strengthening Families. This is an initiative of the Queensland Government and the Department of Housing in Partnership with ACT for Kids. The project funds counselling services free of charge to residents of the Varsity Lakes Community Renewal area (old Stephens suburb).
Felicity has extensive experience working with both adults and children; with particular training using art, clay and sand-play therapies. Felicity runs a variety of small group programs for adults exploring self-esteem, relaxation, and problem solving. Individual counselling appointments to address a wide variety of issues including, grief and loss, depression, anger and stress are available to children, youth and adults.
June Fenton is a family Support Worker employed 2 days a week under the same project to support the counselling service and resource families in the community. June offers Triple P Positive Parenting Programs each school term. Triple P for parents with children aged 2-12 and Triple P Teen for parents of teenagers 13 and over will be offered free of charge. PPP is an evidenced based parenting programme designed by Matt Sanders. The focus is strengthening relationships with children, using praise and encouragement for good behaviour & effective consequences for unwanted behaviour.
