Varsity Lakes Psychology Clinic is providing counseling services that enable clients to view their personal issues in a new light.
Psychologist Luciana Franicevic said the practice focussed on individuals, couples, children and adults needing any guidance or clarity in their lives.
“The whole philosophy is that this is for everyday people,” she said.
“There are times where we all go through yuck feelings and it’s ok to come in, have a talk and look at a few ideas to solve those problems.
“Anxiety and depression are both very common and it is becoming more accepted in the community to seek help and that’s a really good thing.”
The new Psychology clinic mainly uses cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) to tackle any underpinning issues clients might be facing.
Studies by Philip C. Kendall at Temple University, Philadelphia have researched the success of using CBT for practical psychological therapy.
“CBT combines the paradigms of learning theory with an understanding of, and attention, to the cognitive activities of the client,” wrote Kendall.
Ms Franicevic suggested anyone suffering from any form of depression or anxiety should not be afraid to talk to their GP to get a referral.
“I love to read about different approaches to therapy and counselling and I’ll apply various techniques as I see fit,” she said.
“I’ve always wanted to and have been driven to help people,” said Luciana.
This new psychology clinic is a supportive environment encouraging anyone in need to take that first step in talking to someone to gain clarity on any particular issue they might be facing.
