Carols at Varsity Lakes

Masses flock to Varsity Lakes Christmas carols

More than 4,000 locals brought Christmas cheer to Central Park on the evening of Sunday December 6 as Varsity Lakes Community Limited hosted its annual Christmas carols event.

Families and friends came together to sing their favourite Christmas tunes to welcome Santa Claus to the community, and enjoyed free entertainment with a spectacular fireworks finale.

Hosted by Varsity Lakes Community Limited (VLCL), the carols raised funds for the Hear and Say Centre located in Varsity Lakes.

Varsity Lakes Community Limited (VLCL) is a community based not for profit organisation established in September 2006 by Delfin Lend Lease to ensure community prosperity.

VLCL chairman Peter Cummins said the event brought people from throughout the community together to celebrate the start of the festive season.

“We were thrilled by the turn out this year as more than 4,000 gathered on the Central Park lawns to celebrate the countdown to Christmas,” Mr Cummins said.

“We managed to raise almost $3,000 for the Hear and Say Centre which supports hearing impaired children and their families, through generous donations from the community and the sale of glow-sticks.

“In addition to that, over $2,000 was raised for Varsity College’s special education program through the sausage sizzle.”

Children were kept entertained with fun cars, a jumping castle, an animal nursery, Christmas card making and of course a special visit from Santa.

Further entertainment highlights included the Happy Feet dancers, Hope Church Choir, local talent Corey Hargreaves and some classics from ‘Popera’.

Sponsors included Varsity Lakes Community Limited, Delfin Lend Lease, Gold Coast City Council, Hope Church, Varsity Lakes Community Bank, Dominica Sound & Lighting, Life FM 107.3, MBE Business Service Centre, OntheNet, Cytrack, gotalk, Krish Indian Cuisine, Treasure & Associates, lake cafe & bar, Design Forum Architects, Happy Feet Performance Academy, Life Gold Coast, Robina Woods Golf Club and Coates Hire.

Founded to ensure continuity of key economic, social and environmental initiatives at Varsity Lakes after the departure of Delfin Lend Lease, VLCL is dedicated to ensuring community prosperity through a Board of Directors with representation from key stakeholder groups.
